The BTEC Level 2 Intermediate Award in Physical Restraint Practice (Care & Control, C&R, positive handling, restraint, phyiscal intervention)has been specifically written for Care Staff and Education Staff to achieve a Nationally Recognised Level 2 vocationally specific qualification on the knowledge, understanding and skills learners need to undertake appropriate and effective physical restraint to an intermediate standard.
Objectives & Course Content: To successfully achieve the award delegates will be required to:
Understand the requirements of the various pieces of legislation with regard to the Physical Restraint of Children and Young People including: The Children Act 1989 and associated Government guidance documents, The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, The Education Act 1997, The Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006, The Education and Inspections Act 2006;
Understand Reasonable Force in relation to physical restraint by reference to Common & Criminal Law.
Examine the requirements of Health and Safety statute and associated Regulations and show how they apply to physical restraint.
Evaluate the risk of positional asphyxia and other risks associated with physical restraint and explore how to minimise those risks.
Differentiate between holding, escorting and restraining and non-harmful seated restraint techniques and how to apply them.
Demonstrate and explain how to gradually de-escalate and relax restraint to allow the subject being restrained to regain self-control.
Explore when it may be possibly necessary to use a more restrictive technique consistent with the principles of Reasonable Force, Health and Safety statute and the Human Rights Act.

The BTEC Level 2 Intermediate Award in Physical Restraint Practice for Security Staff and Door Supervisors course allows for all staff the opportunity to achieve a Nationally Recognised Level 2 vocationally specific qualification on the knowledge, understanding and skills learners need to undertake appropriate and effective physical restraint to an intermediate standard.
Objectives & Course Content: To successfully achieve the award delegates will be required to:
Understand Reasonable Force in relation to physical restraint by refernce to Common & Criminal Law.
Examine the requirements of Health and Safety statute and associated Regulations and show how they apply to physical restraint.
Evaluate the risks associated with physical restraint and explore how to minimise those risks.
Differentiate between holding, escorting and restraining and non-harmful seated restraint techniques and how to apply them.
Demonstrate and explain how to gradually de-escalate and relax restraint to allow the subject being restrained to regain self-control.
Explore the risks of associated with alcohol and drugs, knives and other forms of edged weapons in relation to the use of physical restraint.
Investigate the difference between non-harmful methods of control and more restrictive methods of control and when the use of such methods would be considered appropriate.

Suitable for: Door Supervisors, Security Operatives, Courtroom & Security Staff.
To provide broader and enhanced skills for those people in job roles where they regularly manage conflict and who require training in physical intervention skills.
Objectives & Course Content: The BTEC Level 2 Award comprises three units of which two must be completed. They are as follows:
Unit 1: Law and Risks of Physical Intervention When Working with Children and Vulnerable Adults
or
Unit 2: Law and Risks of Physical Intervention for People Performing Security Functions
Unit 3: Non-restrictive Methods of Disengagement and Physical Intervention
Learners must complete either Unit 1 or Unit 2, plus Unit 3.
Certification: BTEC Level 2 Award in Disengagement and Non-restrictive Physical Intervention.

The aim of this course is to instruct employed staff in customer facing roles, who may be exposed to the risk of physical violence at work, in the underpinning legal knowledge and physical skills necessary to enable them to be able to defend against a physical assault whilst undertaking their employed duties.
Objectives & Course Content: To achieve a successful pass in this course learners will be expected to:
1. Understand the Law in relation to the use of physical force for personal defence of self and others;
2. Demonstrate the appropriate and effective physical skills for the purpose of breaking away and defending against a violent assault.
