Paul Plummer our lead trainer has twenty two years experience of direct work with people with challenging behaviour. He is  a senior manager at a residential treatment centre for adolescents. As well as being a freelance trainer and coach, he is qualified to postgraduate level in care and is  a qualified further education tutor and coach in physical intervention techniques.

We have a strong belief that the use of any physical force is a last resort and is only used to prevent a more significant harm from occuring. To this end much emphasis is given to understanding the law in response to physical interventions and then teaching skills which can be applied with maximum certainty, in minimum time, with minimum force.

Our ethos is that if employers are to give their staff the skills and knowledge neccessary to meet all legal  and ethical requirements then training must be affordable, value for money and most importantly effective, all our training includes de-escalation and conflict management at its core. There are other providers who will charge significantly more for non recognised, non risk assessed training. Our training is internally and externally verified and quality assured by Edexcel and the National Federation for Personal Safety.

There are many terms used to describe the use of force to prevent a greater harm, in different sectors and by different providers. These are positive handling, physical intervention, C&R, PIP, PCP, Control and restraint, care and control, PMVA. Ultimately they all refer to the concept of using a degree of force either with or without consent of the individual concerned. At Silvermill we teach techniques that are effective and will result in more effective outcomes for both service users and staff. If staff are competent in their skills, have knowledge of the law and DOH guidance then  less harm is likely to be done.
