My role comprises of
• Providing operational direction to all staff working with our client group.
• Provide individual supervision and appraisals to develop the skills and performance of key members of the team.
• To have strategic input into the future development of the service.
• To oversee the management and administration of medication.
• To coordinate the leaning and development needs of all 42 staff members.
• To maintain membership of the Child and vulnerable adult protection team.
• To maintain membership of the intake and assessment team.
• To provide clinical input on an individual and group basis.
• To chair the fortnightly care team meetings.
• To coordinate a longitudinal research programme to assess the efficacy of our service as well as to give formative assessment to improve practice.
• To work direct frontline shifts with the resident group.

• Liaise with external bodies in the development of residential child care such as the Children’s Workforce Development Council.

Self employed trainer Jan 2001 to present
I work as a self employed NVQ assessor in a variety of adult and children’s residential settings. These have included, Elderly, EMI, Mental Health, Nursing, Forensic psychiatric, Learning disabilities and Children’s homes. I specialise in level 4 and the registered managers award RMA and now the Leadership and Management Award. This has given me a breadth of knowledge that covers all of these residential sectors. I have taken over 150 people through their RMA’s or level 4 Health and social Care.

I am a Btec qualified physical intervention coach and deliver the level 2 Btec in physical restraint practice, de escalation and breakaway techniques I am passionate about training people properly in this field to prevent people being harmed.



Senior Practitioner July 1999-2001 for Suffolk County Council at a residential centre for troubled adolescents.
This role involved.

• Leading a team of residential social workers to deliver first class residential care.
• To work in a multidisciplinary way with all relevant agencies,
• Education, social services, police and Camhs.
• To work strategically to develop the service county wide.
• To ensure effective and personalised care planning is implemented.
• To directly train care staff in residential care.
• To provide on call cover to ensure that operational performance is maintained.
• To attend Child protection conferences.
• To ensure effective cooperate parenting across all children’s homes in the county.

I also delivered training to other departments in child protection, challenging behavior and family support work.

Here I managed the residential unit for fifteen emotionally and behaviourally disordered children. I also was responsible for the delivery of the KS3 science curriculum.
